Black Elderberry Extract Sm

BLACK ELDERBERRY EXTRACT

(Sambucus nigra)

European elder (Sambucus nigra) is traditionally used as a medicinal plant, in order to treat bronchitis, upper respiratory infections and fever. Numerous recognised textbooks and monographs have described its medicinal use. Thus in 2002, World Health Organization published a monograph which stated that the descriptions in pharmacopoeias and traditional systems of medicine justify its use as a complementary treatment for both fever, chills, mild inflammation of the upper respiratory tract and common cold.

Our standardised and highly concentrated black elderberry extract (64:1) originates from a solvent free specific process, ensuring the preservation of active substances.

Scientific investigations and clinical trials have proven the interest of black elderberry for its:

Proven efficacy in influenza and cold patients

Elderberry extract significantly reduces the intensity of respiratory infections symptoms, notably in flu and cold: -29 % duration of symptoms, -38 % reduction in symptoms severity and improved general well-being.

Immunomodulatory effects

Elderberry positively acts on the immune system, particularly on post-infection parameters. It notably acts by stimulation of human inflammatory cytokines: IL-8, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-10, TNF and IL-12.

Expectorant and anti-inflammatory effects

Elderberry acts as an expectorant and has demonstrated useful anti-inflammatory effects. Its efficacy in inhibiting markers of inflammation has been proved comparable to those of medicines and makes its use potentially interesting in pro-inflammatory diseases.

Ester C Sm
Ester C Sm

Vitamin C-24h

In 1928, a substance, called "hexuronic acid", has been isolated from adrenal glands. British chemist Walter Haworth determines its molecular structure and renames it ascorbic acid, known today as vitamin C. Many scientists (notably another Nobel Prize, Linus Pauling) have worked on its use in order to enhance immunity, prevent and cure many diseases and disorders.

Ester-C® is a clinically tested patented vitamin C which exhibits rapid absorption and maximum retention for 24 hours in immune cells. Its neutral pH contributes to its great digestive tolerance.

Scientific investigations and clinical trials have proven the interest of vitamin C for its:

IMMUNOMODULATORY EFFECTS

Vitamin C is a well known immunomodulatory agent, in both innate and specific immunity. Vitamin C may equally activate and improve the proliferative response of T-lymphocytes, essential to immune system efficacy, especially in case of illness.

SYMPTOMS AND DURATION REDUCTION POTENTIAL

Vitamin C has been shown to inhibit virus replication and to significantly reduce duration and frequency of common colds. This vitamin constitutes an encouraging adjuvant in COVID-19 treatment and a prophylactic tool, potentially able to reduce the respiratory distress incidence.

ANTI-INFLAMMATORY EFFECTS

Vitamin C regulates the secretion of proinflammatory cytokines, such as IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α in both lymphocytes and monocytes. Hence this vitamin, given alone or in combination, is a safe and useful adjuvant in pro-inflammatory diseases, as COVID-19.

ZINC Sm

ZINC

((Bisglycinate))

Zinc has been recognised as an essential nutrient for plants and animals since the 1920’s. However, it was not until the early 1960's that human zinc deficiency was described in the Middle East. Today, zinc is known as necessary for a wide range of biochemical, immunological and clinical functions, all affected by its deficiency: growth, immune competence, reproductive function, and neurobehavioral development. These facts motivate research in preventive and curative properties of zinc supplementation.

Zinc intake in bisglycinate form shows a maximal bioavailability and tolerance compared to other inorganic and even organic mineral forms.

Scientific investigations and clinical trials have proven the interest of zinc for its:

IMMUNOMODULATORY EFFECTS

Zinc is a long known crucial nutrient for the normal development and functioning of both non-specific and acquired immunity, all challenged during infectious events.

CLINICALLY PROVEN EFFECTS ON THE DURATION AND SEVERITY OF INFECTIONS

Zinc plays a key role in the immune system and its intake exhibited a significative effect in cold symptoms reduction: cough, headaches, hoarseness, nasal congestion, nasal discharge, sore throat… This mineral is a useful adjuvant in COVID-19 treatment and has been shown to reduce intensity of various SARS-CoV-2 outcomes.

EFFICIENCY IN DIGESTIVE INFECTION EVENTS

Zinc is notably known for its beneficial effect in case of digestive infections. This mineral reduces the: mortality, severity, hospitalisation rate and duration of diarrhea. Hence, its intake is recommended by both WHO & UNICEF in this type of infections. It has also recently been highlighted for its potential use in COVID-19 related diarrhea.

Copper Sm

Copper

((Bisglycinate))

Copper is a natural material that has enjoyed long use in medicine and health in various forms, notably for its biocidal properties, known since antiquity. Without knowing why, it was effective. Ancient Egyptians and Greeks used copper powder, notably in wound care and to cure eye infections. We now understand that copper exerts very effective antibacterial properties, killing bacteria through oxidation mechanisms.

Copper intake in bisglycinate form shows a maximal bioavailability and tolerance compared to other inorganic and even organic mineral forms.

Scientific investigations and clinical trials have proven the interest of copper for its:

IMMUNOMODULATORY EFFECTS

Copper is essential for the normal immune system function. HL-60 neutrophils accumulate copper and differentiate into mature cells due to their short lifespan (3-5 days) and consistent count; they are good markers of copper status.

INFLAMMATION CORRELATION IN COVID-19

Unbalanced levels of copper and zinc have been correlated with higher incidence of severe course in COVID-19 infections. However, scientists warned about the COVID-19 pandemic and zinc-induced copper deficiency link. So, in case of infection, the concomitant zinc and copper intake is recommended.

ANTIBACTERIAL EFFECTS

Copper acts on a large spectrum of germs, including mutants. These properties makes this mineral an option in times of crescent microbial resistance and mutations.

Arts,1970 ; University of Rochester Medical Center.
SELENIUM Sm

SELENIUM

((Selenomethionine))

Selenium is a trace element that is naturally present in many foods, added to others and available as a dietary supplement. Selenium, which is nutritionally essential for humans, is a constituent of more than two dozen selenoproteins that play critical roles in reproduction, thyroid hormone metabolism, DNA synthesis and protection from both oxidative damage and infection.

Selenomethionine is an organic salt of selenium, which guarantees a high bioavailability and tolerance in comparison to inorganic forms of selenium; often employed in the food supplement industry.

Scientific investigations and clinical trials have proven the interest of selenium for its:

IMMUNOMODULATORY EFFECTS

Selenium is a nutrient known for its role in normal immune function. So, a diet rich in selenium has been proven able to improve lymphocyte levels and function. Hence, its intake might be useful in case of COVID-19 infection.

PREVENTIVE EFFECTS ON THE PROGRESSION OF VIRAL INFECTIONS

Selenium deficiency has a significant impact on the morphology and defense responses of the host (induced by influenza) in human airway epithelial cells. This mineral thus helps to minimise the occurrence and severity of viral infections. Selenium deficiency is linked to incidence and organ disfunctions in COVID-19 infection. So, its intake is interesting in order to improve survival chances in disease and to avoid long-term sequelae after infection.

ANTI-INFLAMMATORY AND ANTIMUTATION EFFECTS

Selenium also causes increased levels of inflammatory cytokines IL-6 in response to viral attack. Its correct levels have been shown to reduce the risk of virus mutation to more virulent forms.

VITAMIN D Sm

VITAMIN D

((Cholecalciferol))

Before the twentieth century, it was not possible to describe the essentials of a diet that could support life, growth and reproduction. Although vitamin D deficiency was recognised as responsible for rickets and osteomalacia in the early 1600s, it was only a century ago that vitamin D was discovered. This discovery was made difficult by the fact that this compound is synthesised in human skin by exposure to UV light and is also present in the diet in animal (D3) and plant (D2) derived forms.

While both types help to meet our requirements, they differ in a few important ways. Numerous studies conclude that vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) is less effective than vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) at raising blood levels of vitamin D.

Scientific investigations and clinical trials have proven the interest of vitamin D for its:

IMMUNOMODULATORY EFFECTS

Vitamin D is a well-known vitamin whose central role in immunity has been increasingly highlighted, notably since the SARS-Cov-2 pandemic. Systemic or locally produced 1,25(OH)2VD3 exerts its effects on several immune-cell types, including macrophages, dendritic cells (DCs), T and B cells.

ANTIMICROBIAL EFFECTS

This vitamin promotes the differentiation of monocytes into macrophages and ultimately induces the synthesis of cathelicidin, a natural antibiotic that will neutralise the infectious agents.

CORONAVIRUS TREATMENT POTENTIAL USE

Vitamin D promotes the production of both cathelicidins and defensins, which may lower viral replication rates and reduce pro-inflammatory cytokine levels responsible for inflammation and lung damage. This phenomenon, known as “cytokine storm” in severe COVID-19 cases, can lead to pneumonia, as well as dramatically increasing concentrations of inflammatory cytokines.
